Spring 2016: Student Blog: Libby Taylor Welch

I’m Libby and I attend Tom Gribby Theatre Arts – Newark. I love Tom Gribby Theatre Arts because I have met people that have the same interests as me (meaning we’re now best friends) and I always have great fun learning a new song or practising a new dance. I thoroughly enjoy the three-hour workshop and look forward to it every week. Since our West End performance and annual Showcase last year, we have been working on creating radio plays of classic fairytales and learning new musical theatre production numbers, such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. We have also had a guest workshop from former Les Mis cast members Koko Basigara and James Gant.

The most recent show I have seen is Billy Elliot in London’s West End. I thought it was phenomenal: the jokes were hilarious and all the songs were incredible. I have also seen Les Mis, Wicked and Wizard of Oz multiple times.

My favourite cast recordings at the moment are Finding Neverland and Billy Elliot, but I also recently listened to Sweeney Todd and I am hooked!”

Libby Taylor Welch attends the Newark, Nottinghamshire branch of Tom Gribby Theatre Arts which holds workshops for ages 7 upwards on Saturdays 10am – 1pm. Entry is by audition only and students have the opportunity to perform in the school’s annual showcase, as well as external performances and nationally recognised qualifications.
