Summer 2016: Student blog: Mia-Mae Sandle

“Hi, my name’s Mia, I am 8 years old and I do musical theatre and drama with Tom at the Vyne Theatre in Berkhamsted. This term we have done drama exercises, sun songs and done dances to musical theatre songs. I particularly enjoy putting together a routine to show my parents at the end of term.

Some of the other terms have included songs from Disney, Frozen and Roald Dahl. My favourite song we have done is “Naughty” from Matilda the Musical, because I get to be cheeky! At the moment we are working on “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin with Katie and an Oompah Loompah dance with Clare who was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, West End. Every week we do drama and singing exercies to warm up and then practise our routines. I like that I have made new friends and get to meet new people who have the same interests as me.

I go to the theatre lots too. This week I am off to London to watch the ballet, and recently saw Disney On Ice. It was about Mickey and friends going on adventures around the world to places like London, Africa and Arendelle, meeting new characters on the way. It was the 20th anniversary and was magically done on ice!

I really enjoy doing musical theatre with Tom and I know you will too if you join!”

Spring 2016: Student Blog: Libby Taylor Welch

Libby“Hi,

I’m Libby and I attend Tom Gribby Theatre Arts – Newark. I love Tom Gribby Theatre Arts because I have met people that have the same interests as me (meaning we’re now best friends) and I always have great fun learning a new song or practising a new dance. I thoroughly enjoy the three-hour workshop and look forward to it every week. Since our West End performance and annual Showcase last year, we have been working on creating radio plays of classic fairytales and learning new musical theatre production numbers, such as Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. We have also had a guest workshop from former Les Mis cast members Koko Basigara and James Gant.

The most recent show I have seen is Billy Elliot in London’s West End. I thought it was phenomenal: the jokes were hilarious and all the songs were incredible. I have also seen Les Mis, Wicked and Wizard of Oz multiple times.

My favourite cast recordings at the moment are Finding Neverland and Billy Elliot, but I also recently listened to Sweeney Todd and I am hooked!”
